Stone
In Bloom Win Gold

Stone
in Bloom won Gold
in The Large Town
Category plus they
were the overall
Gold award winners
of that
group.
The
most exciting news
was that they have
been put forward
to the national
competition for
2012 an honour
never achieved by
Stone before.
"From
the youngest
nursery children
presenting the
judges with a
welcome card to,
at the conclusion
of our tour the
most talented
Stone male voice
choir, Stone has
it all.
The
Small In Bloom
group bursts with
energy and
enthusiasm which
is infectious.
Floral displays in
the main shopping
areas were
excellent as was
the refurbished
street furniture,
the result of
Bloomers efforts
themselves.
Young
people figure very
high virtually all
schools. Guides
and Brownies etc.
are
involved.
The
logistics of five
schools entering a
miniature garden
competition must
have been a
nightmare. Some
unique things are
happening in this
town, a Friends of
Stone in Bloom,
who even enjoy
discounts
negotiated with
local businesses
to a litter
picking German
Shepherd dog. A
well deserved Gold
Award.
This
award is given to
exceptional
achievers who have
demonstrated a
consistently high
standard in all
areas of the
judging criteria
and objectives of
Britain in
Bloom."
Stone
Resident Jayne
Smith also won a
very special award
for Endeavour and
determination
" This young
woman despite
suffering many
physical, mental
and emotional
difficulties has
managed to
transform the
gardens of her
housing
association home
into Chelsea
standard show
gardens.

Dog
Fouling
A
letter from a local
resident
Would
those people who
walk their dogs
along Tilling Drive
and past the bottom
gate of the school
playing fields in
Walton please pick
up their dog’s
mess.
I
counted at least six
piles of it around
the area on Bank
Holiday Monday where
the children get off
the school bus.
There
is no excuse not to
pick it up, there
are at least four
bins on that route
and you can buy a
month’s supply of
dog bags for about
one pound
fifty.
I
wonder what these
people’s reaction
would be if they
stepped into any
outside their own
gate.

Trentham
Rowers
Success

This
weekend, 4 local
rowers from Trentham
Boat Club donned there National
Colours to represent
England
at the Home
International
Regatta in Scotland.
The
girls lined up
against the best
crews from Scotland,
Ireland
and
Wales.
After a tight
start where all
crews where level at
500m the Girls began
to power away and
established a
comfortable lead.
At
the 1500m mark they
were well in
control and finished
the 2000m race a
staggering 16
seconds ahead of
Ireland who were
followed in by
Scotland and then
Wales.
This
is a superb
achievement for the
girls who all train
on
Trentham
Lakes. The crew consisted
of local Trentham
Girls Tammy Bloor,
Lucy Cruxton and
Laura Cruxton and
Rebecca Dell from
Stone.
They
were supported on
the Trip by there
Coach Darren Barton
who explained that
the win was down to
a carefully
rehearsed strategy
that he had been
working on with them
over the past couple
of weeks.
This
is the second time
that Juniors from
Trentham Boat Club
have represented
England
as the same girls
were part of a crew
of 8 who also
represented
England
in the previous
season.
It
is a huge week for
Trentham Boat club
with Lucy Cruxton
flying out to Austria
this week where she
will be representing
the GB Team at the
Coupe De Jeunese
“the European
Championships” of
rowing.
After this,
the girls will be
back in Training for
the 2011/2012 season
where they hope to
emulate there recent
successes.

Iggle
Piggle and Uppsy
Daisy surprise
‘Little Luvvies’
Pupils
at Rooftop
Studios’ ‘Little
Luvvies’
performing arts
class in Stone were
in for a special
treat on Saturday,
19th
March – when
characters ‘Uppsy
Daisy’ and
‘Iggle Piggle’
from popular kid’s
TV show ‘In the
Night Garden’ paid
a surprise visit.
In
addition to meeting
their TV heroes, the
group of 3 – 5
year olds enjoyed a
special class based
on the show itself
as teacher, Kit
Henson, explains:
“In
the Night Garden is
a great show and
really popular with
the Little Luvvies
age group, so we
thought it would be
lovely to surprise
them with a visit
from the stars. It
was brilliant to see
their reactions when
Iggle Piggle and
Uppsy Daisy walked
into the room, and
they all thoroughly
enjoyed working on
some song and dance
routines we’d put
together based on
the show. Hopefully
it’s something
they’ll remember
for a long time to
come.”
Little
Luvvies, aimed at
children aged from 3
– 8 years, is the
‘nursery’
division of Rooftop
Studios’ Pop
School & Stage
Academy performing
arts school. Classes
take place on
Saturday mornings
between 9am – 10am
(for 3 – 5 year
olds) and 10am –
11.30am (for 6 – 8
year olds) at the
professionally
designed studio
above the High
Street Co-Op in
Stone, with an
emphasis on giving
children a head
start in the fields
of dance, drama and
singing whilst,
above all, having
fun.
